SPOTLIGHT #4: Meet Wadah (standing), our 2015-2016 Sophomore Class Head.

Wadah has experienced Minds Matter at all levels - he participated in the program as a mentee in New York (graduating in 2009 with a full-ride scholarship to Georgetown University), as a mentor in Boston, and now as a Class Head.

Wadah strongly believes that all students should have the opportunity to be successful in high school and college, regardless of their socioeconomic background. He is grateful to the Minds Matter community for it's support of promising young students and plans to be involved for years to come.

SPOTLIGHT #3: Meet Jenn (right), a Minds Matter Boston mentor and the first to graduate college in her family.

Jenn attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she graduated with distinction and received a BA in Journalism and Mass Communication.

Jenn is passionate about Minds Matter because it gives her the opportunity to support other first generation college students gain admission to top institutions.

At Minds Matter, our mentors are a group of individuals with diverse socioeconomic backgrounds, educational experiences, family situations, religious affiliations and more. We aim to provide our mentees with inspiring role models who can help them achieve their full potential.

SPOTLIGHT#2: Meet Lizmery, a sophomore at Margarita Muñiz Academy, the first dual language high school and Innovation School in the BPS family.

Lizmery's favorite writer is Junot Díaz, so when her mentor, Samaira, saw the Pulitzer Prize winning author at a restaurant, she asked for a personal note for her mentee.

"Lizmery-- hermanita! I hope this finds you well. Sending you light + respect. Find a good college! Do the travel abroad, fall in love on 3 continents - live."

Samaira's relationship with Lizmery goes beyond knowing just where she attends school and what her standardized test scores are. At Minds Matter, we encourage our mentors and mentees to form lasting friendships outside of their weekly Saturday sessions.

SPOTLIGHT #1: Meet Dale, a junior at the Match Charter School in Boston. Dale was accepted into Minds Matter Boston his sophomore year and meets with his two mentors, Frank and Luis, weekly. Here he is with Luis during a recent Saturday session.

With a great sense of humor and a knack for biology, Dale hopes to attend a university where he can study Pre-Med and ultimately become a doctor. At Minds Matter, we are committed to supporting students like Dale achieve college success and make their dreams a reality.
